Hello Adam thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Since all good things start with coffee how do you like your coffee made? Did copshop deliver?
Long black only. No milk please..that's like putting water in whiskey. and copshop did deliver...but its not their fault i couldn't drink it hot because my customers only know to come when I'm either eating or drinking.
haha we see, nothing beats a good long black. So what memories do you have of the first market you went to?
I wish I could remember that far back.
You're a true market veteran! What do you love about markets?
hmm ... the informality, vibe and the good contact with the organisers who will do their best to accommodate my needs.
What pizza did you eat at the Holy Weekender?
mushroom...a good choice...same next time.
Yes mushroom is a great choice! Some say it opens up your third eye, talking about third eyes please describe the creative process behind what you make?
I wont bore you with the details. suffice it to say there is a lot of work in maintaining a nursery and trying to turn out original, unique and quality products
What do you love about what you do?
ahh...its all about growing plants. outdoors all day, creative, artistic, challenging in many ways that you only learn on the job. I always say I'm lucky that after so many years i still enjoy what i do....how many people can say that?
Where do you draw inspiration?
my bank balance...take that any way you like.
haha honest but true! What is the strangest thing or thought that has inspired your craft?
thats a strange question. but if there is an answer to it, maybe ill keep it to myself.
How did you come up with the concept for what you do?
a visit to a freezing Vienna in winter 1980....and a chance encounter with some tiny terrra cotta pots led my frozen brain to concentrate on growing mini cacti....the rest is history.
Is Melbourne art culture and community important to you? Why?
it is unique, all encompassing in a compact and close knit city which everyone can give and take from and impinges on each and every one of us in positivity and a feeling of wellness
What would be your advice to people wanting to start their own brand?
Be willing to work round the clock, to be prepared to do everything from design, manufacturing, packaging, buying whats needed, marketing, selling, managing staff, accounts, logistics, secreterial and above all....have some capital... cash flow can be the most difficult issue.
Have you had any memorable customers?
I've seen Nick Cave, John Hewson, Robert Doyle and lately Robert Plant all pass me by, not buy. Does that count as memorable?
Thanks for the chat Adam, see you at the next Holy Weekender.
